 Job Description
The College of Liberal Arts at Drew University, an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the recently established Landmark Conference, is accepting applications for the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. The College of Liberal Arts at Drew University is a highly selective liberal arts college located 30 miles outside New York City which enrolls more than 1,500 students, about 25% of whom participate in varsity athletics.

The Athletics Director will provide leadership to Drew's eighteen varsity sports teams and is responsible for strategic planning, program management, budgeting, personnel and student-athlete development, and staffing decisions. The Athletics Director supervises the Associate Director, the Assistant Director, and the Facilities Director, all of whom are also head coaches. In addition, the Athletics Director supervises eleven other head coaches (eight full-time and three part-time), two certified athletics trainers, an equipment manager, and an administrative assistant. The Athletics Director may have faculty status as appropriate. This position reports directly to the President and is expected to work closely with other offices including student affairs, alumni and development, and admissions, in meeting institutional goals and objectives and in maintaining a tradition of academic and athletics excellence.

The Landmark Conference, which began competition in 2007, consists of eight institutions located in the middle Atlantic region of the United States that engage in athletic competition and other collaborative activities while holding paramount the centrality of the academic mission at each institution. It is an expectation that the Athletics Director will embrace leadership opportunities in the Landmark Conference and will be able to articulate and support an institutional philosophy that clearly demonstrates the integration of academics and athletics.

A Master's degree in sports management, physical education, or related field and five years experience in athletics administration is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a Division III environment. Significant coaching experience at the college level is a plus. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, and must demonstrate a commitment to the objectives of the Landmark Conference including the centrality of the academic mission and the value of ethnic, cultural and gender diversity.

The successful applicant will meaningfully address the above qualifications in his or her cover letter. In addition to a cover letter, a resume and the contact information for three professional references must be included. Application review will begin on June 16th.
